Nn3 Diesel Loco - # 11 (Frank)This is my first attempt at a white metal loco kit. I used a ZClub NM3 diesel shunter kit I purchased from Country Rolling Stock in the UK which is designed to fit on a modified Marklin 8800 chassis (centre wheels removed and the chassis slightly shortened). Although the castings are not great it went together relatively easy although I had to fill in a few gaps here and there. This was also my first serious attempt at spray painting and I am pleased with the end result considering my lack of skills. I still need to add some decals and couplings and I should try to dull the paint job. I have decided to go DCC with most of my modeling so I managed to fit a Digitrax chip into the roof of the cab. This has noticeably improved the running of such a small loco. It will be interesting to see if I am able to shunt effectively with this little loco. The top photo was taken a few years ago when I built the loco. The bottom photo was taken more recently and shows up some wear and tear which is not immediately obvious from a normal viewing distance. I will need to do some touch ups and weathering which I hope will improve the look. If not, I may need to have another go at painting the loco. |
